BUILDING SCARBOROUGH BEACH

Woolworths approved at White Sands

In June 2021, DevelopmentWA approved the Woolworths $120 million apartment complex proposal, which is to have a 29- and 12-storey building on West Coast Highway. It will consist of a medical center, cafe or restaurant, gym, tavern, supermarket, BWS as well as over 300 apartments. Building is to commence mid-2023.

While the area remains under the jurisdiction of DevelopmentWA, the City of Stirling has limited control over the area and has raised numerous objections to the site. When control is returned to the City, possibly in late 2022, the City will be in a position to review the planning framework.

3 Oceans Towers application withdrawn

The most recent application for a $300 million Scarborough apartment complex proposed for the corner of West Coast Hwy and Scarborough Beach Road has been withdrawn.

Any future building design would also need to consider the idea by the State Government to sink West Coast Highway.

Trackless tram business case

The Federal Government has provided a $2 million for a business case to consider the proposed trackless tram to go on a seven kilometre route from Glendalough Train Station to Scarborough Beach. There is great potential for not just transport outcomes, but economic, business and innovation.

I demonstration will be underway in Stirling to showcase the tram technology and people will be able to get on board.
